Maori Culture, "Some Brief History"
Māori is an oral culture rich with stories and legends. The Māori creation story describes the world being formed by the violent separation of Ranginui, the Sky Father, and Papatuanuku, the Earth Mother, by their children. Many Māori carvings and artworks graphically depict this struggle.
Being a tribal Polynesian people, Māori have a unique protocol. The best place to observe it is on a marae (Māori meeting grounds). Many tourist operators in New Zealand organise visits to marae.
A powhiri (formal welcome) at a marae begins with wero (challenge) A warrior from the tangata whenua (hosts) will challenge the manuhiri (guests). He may carry a spear (taiaha) then lay down a token (often a small branch) that the manuhiri will pick up to show they come in peace. Some kuia (women) from the tangata whenua (hosts) will perform a karanga (call/chant) to the manuhiri. Women from the manuhiri will then respond as they move onto the marae in front of their men.

Sam Suttons update on Italy
Hey Bliss-stick Crew, Bliss-sticks Sam Sutton sent {NORM} this email...
so here in Europe, pretty sweet place paddling some sick stuff everyday, and just ran into Nils one of the mystic designers, been having fun hanging with him and a few of the German boys. In the Val Sesia Teva games Honza stomped it blowing everyone away. The mystic was doing most of it I think. I borrowed the Mac-1 for the boater cross and won every race, was sweet. Apart from this Pat Keller and I fired up the Devil Slide, check it out on samsutton, com cheers for the boat its doing a sick job looking after me.

A Local Aussie/Bliss-Stick Boater James Rowlinson In The 175 Blue Rad@Peno
Keeping an eye on this young Bliss-Stick rider looking forward to some great video in canada coming soon.
just a quick vid of me in my shiny new rad at peno, as well as some of the other peno locals doing their thing. The course isn't that great at the moment so the quality of the footage wasn't that good, but I was in my new boat so i had fun!

...................................................................................
Hey guys, Beginning this year at the start of March with the epic Northern Western Australia expedition feedtherat has already set the standard for 2008 to possibly be my most exciting year of touring yet. Only days after arriving home broken and bruised from Western Australia Bliss-Stick had me repacking my bags again and setting off for New Zealand. I spent a couple of days hanging out with the boys at the factory catching up on last years stories over a few beers and boats while planning the next couple of months to come. Andy, Bliss-Sticks master molder managed to take some time out of his ridiculously busy schedule of pumping out boats for the next container to help me create my dream boat set for Europe. Made from the new stiffer and strong plastic we decided to go for one of their newest colors in the range, an extremely vibrant almost traffic cone red. We added some graphics on the bottom to help boost the boat in photographs and then did some of our own special modifications during the molding and setting process to produce a RAD 175 in a league of its own. We then finished it all off by installing the newer lighter outfitting before sending it out the door to the airport. The RAD has truly proven to be a boat designed years before its time. Originally released back in 2003 it’s now the only boat from its time that’s still competitive on the market, but in all fairness the RAD is not still the same boat it was back in 2003. Like the boat Andy made up for my Euro tour all RADs now come with the newer plastic, newer outfitting, along with the molding & setting standards that have evolved over the years to produce a boat that is still ahead of its time. Thanks to all the boys, and girls, at the Bliss-Stick factory!!! ~ Special Thanks to Andy O – the boat's sick! YAPPA'S PROFILE
